It’s been a while since I shared a life update post hasn’t it? Truthfully it’s because not a lot really happens that requires any sort of blog announcement, and most of the time you can gauge what’s going on from my other posts, but over the past month or so there have been a couple of significant changes in my life that I felt warranted their very own post. It makes a nice change from fitness and travel too, especially as I still have about a million holiday photos to post (sorry not sorry).

Admittedly big news to me is something as basic as a menu change at Nandos or some sort of Love Island related scandal, but for once I have actual big news. And this big news is that on Friday I drove away from my work for the last time (as a complete emotional wreck can I add), and tomorrow I start a brand new job in a brand new place. How about that for a life update bombshell! I will now be working as a Marketing and Communications Executive, much closer to home, for a company who I’ve had my eye on for a while. I’m still in the fitness field which was hugely important to me, but the company is no longer a retail business and instead a chain of gyms across the UK, which is exactly what I wanted for my next step up on the career ladder.

For those who don’t know, I worked as a Content Executive for almost two years, and I guess you could say it was my first ‘proper’ content job. Even after working there for a few months I still had to pinch myself everyday because I couldn’t believe I was working in a job that previously people had said I’d need a degree to do. Those people knocked my confidence right down to the ground, but it feels good to have proven them wrong. The job I had was great and the people I worked with were such good friends, which made it all the more difficult to leave, but I just felt it was time to move on. I’m the kind of person who has to consistently move upwards, and I wanted to work somewhere that didn’t involve a hefty commute on roads that are famously sh*t. I might have a lot of new skills on my CV but sitting patiently in traffic isn’t one of them.

Career change aside, what else has changed? Well on a more personal note, both my grandma and dad and stepmum have moved away, which is pretty big news for a close-knit family like mine. We didn’t get to see each other that often because of clashing schedules and just generally busy lives, but it’s weird now that they’re gone. My grandma has only moved a couple of hours away, but my dad and stepmum Amy have moved way up north to the Scottish highlands. I couldn’t be happier for them but saying goodbye was obviously incredibly tough, and it’s weird to think that they’re no longer only forty minutes up the road, and instead a whopping nine hour drive (or a quick flight, which is inevitably the easier option). Still, this doesn’t mean we won’t get to see them. We’re already trying to plan our first trip up in the hopefully not too distant future! I used to visit Scotland a lot as a child so I can’t wait to go back and explore a new part of it, especially as the area they’re living in is so beautiful.

So yeah, there’s my little (not so little) life update! I’m terrified about this new start, which I guess is just ‘fear of the unknown’, but I’m also really excited to see what this new job has in store for me. The one thing I’ve learned from this change is that you really do have to believe in yourself to make things happen. “In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take”. I’ll remember that quote next time I’m taking a leap into the ocean, hopefully not anytime soon, because it’s true. If you give into the fear of failing, who knows what you’re going to miss out on. Wish me luck!
