I don’t know about you, but the fact that there is a specific day allowing you to eat copious amounts of pancakes is incredible. I adore pancakes, they’re the best things since sliced bread in my opinion. Admittedly, my favourite type are those American ones that are like four inches thick and covered with crispy bacon and syrup, but my lemon and sugar and fruit and maple syrup ones are equally as delightful.
Since my health kick began last year, dessert has become a one off treat as opposed to a daily occurrence, so the fact that Shrove Tuesday allows me to eat my body weight in sweet and/or savoury pancakes is a god send. That being said, I really admire those who then give up something they love for Lent which begins the following day, my Mum gives up chocolate every single year and still to this day I don’t know how she does it. I ought to do it myself really, but without my occasional Lindt 70% dark chocolate fix, I think I’d keel over at the gym (that’s my excuse anyway).
I had pancakes last night and I plan to have them again tonight, I have no shame (plus, it turns out my boyfriend is a damn good cook… win!). I sometimes eat low calorie banana pancakes on weekends which of course are way kinder on the figure, but let’s be honest, when it’s Pancake Day it’s time to bring out the full works. I think by tonight at least 40% of my body contents will consist of syrup, mmm. What are you having on your pancakes today?
