By the time we arrived in Dubai on Sunday after our seven hour flight it was a bit late to go anywhere or do anything, so we just wandered around the hotel and decided to go and explore the next day instead.
Being on a tight budget meant that we couldn’t take a taxi everywhere we wanted to go, so we had a seriously overpriced hotel breakfast (we didn’t make that mistake again) and then took the metro towards to beach. What we didn’t realise was that the metro actually stopped nowhere near the coast, so we had to taxi it a further 10 minutes until we ended up in the right place *face palm*. That aside, their metro system is brilliant! Far better than the London underground.
The beach was absolutely huge and had gorgeous fine white sand, plus we had the most amazing view of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the 7* Burj Al Arab Hotel! Admittedly it wasn’t as nice as the private beaches that the major hotels have, but it was perfect for a brief swim in the Arabian Sea before our busy afternoon ahead. It was so nice to appreciate the sun properly for a few hours as having to cover up whilst walking about in Dubai is a bit of a pain. One, because you get ridiculously hot (emphasis on the “ridiculously”), and two, because only part of your arms and legs get a tan – and that’s really not a good look.
I could have happily paddled around in the water for the entire time we were in Dubai, but we had too much else to see in our brief two day visit!
Next up, Dubai’s Desert Safari Tour…
