It’s the last day of not only December, but the entire year of 2015. It doesn’t feel like one whole year since I was stood watching the London fireworks with Darryl, my cousin Lee and his girlfriend Kathryn, but it’s not surprising considering how much I’ve crammed into the past twelve months. For me, I ended 2014 feeling quite negative towards the year I’d had. I had some wonderful experiences and made plenty of great memories, but it felt like something was missing, so I knew this year had to be different!
I wanted to begin the year with a bang, and with one of my main resolutions for the year being to travel more, I immediately thought that booking a holiday was where I should start. So within six days of 2015, I decided to book a mega trip for November with Darryl. This was perhaps a tad impulsive, but sometimes that can be a good thing!
As if that wasn’t enough of a big spend, Darryl and I began house hunting around Easter and soon enough put down a £500 deposit on a new build apartment. Eep! This was in April, and we’re still eight weeks away from moving in, but it’ll be so worth the wait. Our eight month wait so far has been long and stressful thanks to a few unwanted complications, but they’ve also been the most exciting eight months of our lives so far!
Then came the new job. I didn’t do A Levels and I didn’t go to uni, instead I hopped from college, to a retail job, to an apprenticeship and finally to a full time admin/social media role. Whilst the company, the people and aspects of the job were brilliant – I knew I needed to take a step up on the career ladder and find my feet a little more. So, since October I’ve been working in a Content Executive role which I absolutely love. It’s terrifying to take “the leap”, but when it’s the right time, you just know it needs to be done!
And then, the holiday. As you’ll know if you’re a regular reader, we spent four weeks traveling between Dubai, the east coast of Australia and Bali. I can honestly say it was the best experience of my life so far. The memories we created, the photos we captured and the experiences we were lucky enough to take part in are worth more than anything! If it wasn’t for the price tag, I’d be back on a plane jetting off somewhere new in a second.
To top off a fabulous year, we’ve just had the most wonderful Christmas surrounded by our incredible friends and family – and on Tuesday I celebrated my 21st Birthday. What a way to end 2015, right? All that’s left to do is party tonight away, and then it’s time to settle down into 2016 and await the big move! I already have so many ideas and plans that I want to see become a reality in the year ahead, and so I can only hope that 2016 allows me to be as lucky and as successful as I’ve been this year.
I wish you all a very, very happy New Year!
