Stepping off the long Greyhound bus journey from Cairns via Townsville was the most amazing welcome. Which was made better by a quick buggy ride up to our hostel! There was no way we could have walked all that way in that heat with our backpacks…
When we arrived at Base Backpackers Hostel, we had this amazing, spacious lodge to spend a couple of nights. As it was situated right at one end of the town, so we had a good excuse to get out and explore.
We immediately stocked up on some lunch from Woolworths (their main supermarket), grabbing some DIY baguette ingredients, crisps and fresh watermelon. Where better to enjoy a meal than by the lagoon and beach?
After lunch, we walked along to Airlie Beach harbour, which is where we were going to be catching our boat from the next morning for our Whitsundays trip.
We only had one day to explore, but I absolutely loved Airlie Beach, and we were craving a chilled day after a hectic start to the trip.
I think if I could live anywhere out of places we visited in Australia, it would be Airlie Beach!
