On our very last day in Australia, we were itching to see just a little bit more of the country. So we hired a car and made our way south – to Byron Bay!
It took just under two hours and was a super easy route, so Darryl had no trouble driving. It helped that they drive on the left like us in the UK!
When we arrived in Byron Bay, we headed to the beach. The town of Byron is so cute, and very hipster. The weather was also beautiful so we definitely saw the town in its best light.
We grabbed some food and drove up to Cape Byron Lighthouse for a picnic. Here you can stand at Australia’s most easterly point! Looking down on the blue waters below as we ate our lunch was the perfect way to spend an hour or two.
I wish we could have stuck around and tried some surfing, but we had another destination to go to! Next, we drove back up north for just over an hour to the Gold Coast.
But before we arrived, we took a slight detour into the jungle in the hope of finding where they film I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! which was on at the time of our trip. Obviously we didn’t find it, but it was worth a shot and we found some really cool photo spots on the way.
Eventually we reached the Gold Coast, and parked up by the beach. We arrived just before sunset, so we went for a beach stroll and stopped for some fish and chips on the beachfront.
There was some sort of festival going on at the time so it was absolutely packed! There was such a great vibe there.
We had one last hour of driving to do to get back to Brisbane, so as the night sky began to cover the city we set off one last time.
We booked the car for two days, so we could drive ourselves to the airport the next morning and leave the car there.
This was literally the most perfect end to an incredible, once in a lifetime trip to the other side of the world. We’d now completed stint one in Dubai and stint two in Australia, so it was time for part three – Bali!
