Last month our travels took us to Barcelona, where we stayed at the 4-star Meliá Barcelona Sky Hotel for three nights. There were tons of hotels to choose from in Barcelona, all very similar in style, but the Meliá Barcelona Sky’s luxury pool and modern city-view rooms looked perfect for our spontaneous city break.

Admittedly this hotel is a little far from the centre of Barcelona, situated in the district of Poblenou. It’ll take you about 30-minutes to walk to the Sagrada Familia, 50-minutes to Las Ramblas and 20-minutes to the nearest beach.
Because of this, we spent a lot of our trip getting either the bus (which stopped right outside the hotel) or the metro, which was no more than a 10-minute walk away. A one-way journey is 2.20 euros each, so a really affordable option.
You can read more about that in my last post.
We booked a city-view room, which looked across Parc Central del Poblenou. You might even be slightly luckier and get views across the main city, or the pool if you book a pool-view room.
Aside from the views, the room itself was fantastic. We had a huge marshmallow bed, a spacious rain shower and Rituals products throughout.
Just a word of warning, there’s not a great deal of privacy as the bathroom is only separated from the bedroom by a window! The shower is frosted, but there’s nowhere to hide if you’re travelling with family or friends.
This feature was probably the main reason I booked the hotel! Their pool is absolutely gorgeous, and is surrounded by different beds, sofas and loungers within the Le Pool Club Bar and Terrace area. Drink service starts nice and early and music is played all day, so it’s the perfect place to chill out. Or in our case, celebrate our engagement!
This part of the hotel actually turns into a pool-party destination Friday to Sunday, so if you’re visiting then it will have more of an outdoor-club vibe to it. We chose to have our pool day on the Monday, and apart from other people sunbathing around us, it was really peaceful.
This hotel has an exclusive YHI Spa, gym and three restaurants; Merkado, Skyline 24 and the outdoor Le Pool Club. We ate breakfast at Skyline 24 with a view over the city and enjoyed a few drinks at Le Pool Club, both of which were amazing! Though if you’re travelling on a budget, the hotel dining might not the most affordable option at 20 euros per person for the buffet breakfast.
The hotel also has a service called The Level, which is described as “an experience that exceeds beyond the limits of mere accommodation”. You’ll pay a price, but you’ll receive exclusive benefits such as private check-in, access to exclusive areas, snacks and refreshments, room service and lots more.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Meliá Barcelona Sky. If you don’t mind a longer walk into the city or catching public transport, you’ll love this hotel!
