Choosing our accomodation is one of my favourite parts of booking a trip. But it’s not always easy when you have champagne taste but only a lemonade budget!
Vila Alpina is a very small, very new hotel. Opening just two years ago in 2018 with a very modern, chalet-style design, this gorgeous little hotel makes for a very peaceful stay.
When we arrived we were met by Peter, who runs reception. He immediately sat us down in the common room – which is perfect for evening BYOB get-togethers and a few rounds of cards – to talk us through the best things to do at Lake Bled and beyond.
Outside there’s also a huge terraced area with seating, which I bet is beautiful in summer! We spent half an hour out here in the cold as we arrived too early, but it was so refreshing to sit and just listen to the birds and silence of the mountains.
If you hire a car, you can also park just outside for 7 euros per day.
Vila Alpina is set back from the lake at the bottom of a hill, which is a bit of a tough climb! If you turn left or right out of the hotel, you can reach Lake Bled from both directions. Fyi, going left is easier on the legs.
The lake itself is only a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and if you follow the path there’s a supermarket, a couple of restaurants, some other hotels and a bus stop.
The best news? Vila Alpina is situated at the end of the lake with the best view of Bled Island! Then you have the main town of Bled which is located at the other end of the lake, about a 30-minute walk away.
When booking your stay at Vila Alpina, you have the choice of a Superior Double, Standard Double or Economy Double.
Some of the rooms appeared to be quite small, so I was really pleased that we booked the Superior Double and bagged the only room with a balcony! This was really nice to have when we woke up on day two to a blanket of snow.
The bed was super comfortable, there was a decent amount of storage and the bathroom was beautifully new and spacious.
The only trouble we had with our room was a loss of heating and water on the last morning, everything else was perfect! It was also cleaned immaculately every single day which you don’t get everywhere.
Have you been to Lake Bled? Would you like to visit?
