Yesterday I made my first ever trip down to Waddesdon Manor to see its Christmas fair, Christmas shop and many light displays. This beautiful house near Aylesbury is known for being one of THE places to go in the run up to Christmas – keep reading to see for yourself!

Waddesdon Christmas fair
My favourite part of the day was wandering around the Christmas fair. Every business sets up shop in a small wooden chalet right in front of the Manor house and there’s this incredible atmosphere of all the families enjoying the festivities.
Here you’ve got everything from quirky cheeses, creamy fudge and wedges of brownie – to gorgeous handmade crafts, unique Christmas decorations and endless bottles of festive tipples. If you go make sure you check out Pudding Lane, as my friend Chloe sells amazing Christmas puds there!
On top of all this, you’ve got tons of places to grab a bite to eat. We’d had a small lunch before we went so we just bought ourselves a mulled cider and a raclette cheese toastie to warm us up whilst we explored the winter light trail.
The Stables at Waddesdon
Whilst you’re there, don’t forget to visit the baubles at the stables! Here you’ll also find the ‘Light in Motion’ display inside the Coach House which is a short watch but so fun. This area of the Waddesdon grounds is a good spot to sit and enjoy a hot chocolate on faux fur throws.
Illuminated woodland trail at Waddesdon
Whilst you’re here you can wander your way around the illuminated woodland trail. Along this path there are tons of coloured lanterns created by local schools. At the other end you’ll find a gorgeous tipi cafe with roaring fires, if you fancy another mulled something or other!
The only thing we didn’t get to see was inside the house because tickets sold out weeks ago. But thank you to the doorman who let me nip in to take a quick photo! I’ll make sure we get tickets for this next time we visit because I’ve heard their displays are unreal.
That said, make sure you stick around Waddesdon Manor for dusk so you can see the illuminations! Surrounded by giant, twinkling Christmas trees and festive music, this building is incredible and completely lights up the Christmas fair.
Tips for the day
- Book in advance
- Wear wellies or boots as it can get muddy
- It’s a fairly lengthy uphill walk from the car park but you can get a bus
- Take cash in case some stalls don’t take card
- Wrap up warm!
I’m feeling crazy festive now, so I’m sat here writing this with a homemade mulled cider and all the Christmas candles! Christmas will be here before we know it…
